While looking for another place of interest to gather up with you all, the Sledge Track came to my attention. Some of you may know about it or have visited it but this was my first. To ensure that the trip would be worthwhile, I went to have a look. Well I think you may be spoilt for choice. There is a little reserve that the attached photos was taken at and further on is the start of the tracks. Not just one but six of them. The tracks are used by walkers, runners and mountain bikers. I saw a very small part of it but I will return to explore further in the future. From what I could tell there is at least 2 waterfalls. I saw one of them and it will provide a photographic challenge. The other was on another track and I did not get to it. There is a lot of moss, ferns, dripping water river views and a lot more that is talked about in the literature. The calendar for June is looking very full so if the weather is not conducive for photography, we will meet indoors and look at the program ahead and equipment. This trip will then be postponed to a later date.
Venue. Sledge track
Location. At the end of Kahuterawa road. (Note the tar seal ends and the car park is about 10 minutes further down the gravel road. This road is narrow in places but in good condition.)
Meeting place. Before the start of the gravel road you will come to a reserve on the right side of the road. (This is where the attached photographs were taken) we will meet there and take time for some photographs here before continuing on to the tracks.
Meeting Time. 10.30am
Date. Saturday 11.06.2022
Equipment. This area lends itself to all types of photography. Bring as much as you can.
Footwear. The tracks are rated from Beginner to Advanced. So leave the high heels at home and bring something appropriate. Trainers would have been fine for the section of track that I walked.
Food. Water bottle for the walk. Lunch and hot drinks.
Postponement. I will make the call on a possible postponement on Thursday the 9th June and notify everyone by email (to the Landscape Group) and a notice on Facebook
